About

CAMILA VILLANUEVA, FOUNDER AND CEO

Camila "CAM" Villanueva is a Filipino-American dreamer based in Los Angeles, CA. She immigrated to the San Francisco Bay Area at 9 years old and grew up a proud member of her large and boisterous Filipino family who taught her that even though she was a strong entertainer, Filipinos can only be doctors or engineers. Thus, as the overachieving eldest daughter, she went on to receive her Bachelors and Masters degree in Biomedical Engineering specializing in implantable cardiac pacemakers and defibrillators.

After three years of saving lives feeling unfulfilled in her medical career, this obedient daughter was finally ready to make some noise and save her own. Ultimately risking becoming a disappointment to her parents, she forged her own path to become a storyteller in Los Angeles in May 2018. She received her Directing Certificate from UCLA in June 2020.

Today she is the proud owner of Cammotion Pictures, a production company dedicated to telling stories of the underrepresented. Her most recent film as a producer, PEDACITO DE CARNE, written by Diana Gonzalez-Morette and directed by Akilah “AK'' Walker, was also awarded a $25,000 sponsorship provided by NETFLIX as part of the NALIP’s Women of Color Incubator in 2022. PEDACITO DE CARNE is a story about a Latinx millennial caregiver and her challenges when dealing with a loved one with dementia told in partnership with the Association of Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD).
